About Us

The Gladstone Regional Art Gallery & Museum was established in 1985 and is a community cultural initiative funded by the Gladstone Regional Council. It is dedicated to promoting art and heritage for and by the communities of the Gladstone region and Central Queensland, acting as a focal point for the preservation and display of the region's history and cultural heritage.

Housed in the heritage listed old Gladstone Town Hall, the current Gallery/Museum buildings are linked by a glass bridge walkway purpose-built to accommodate the 19th century marble statue of the region's namesake, William Ewart Gladstone. The dramatic aluminium and steel installation 151.16 S 23 50E by local artist Margaret Worthington on the facade of the newer wing recalls the harbour and shipping charts of Port Curtis.

The public are encourages to enter the building via Goondoon Street.  At the rear of the Gallery/Museum is a loading bay which can be access via Bramston Street.

The Gallery/Museum have five exhibition spaces known as The Town Hall Gallery, The Museum Room, The Front Gallery, O'Connell Space and The Glass House.   Exhibitions of art and history are shown throughout these spaces and continue to be changed every 4-6 weeks on average. The building's five exhibition spaces are on ground level and a workshop studio space can be found downstairs.  All areas are wheelchair and pram friendly.

The Gladstone Regional Art Gallery and Museum Society

The Gallery/Museum is supported by the Gladstone Regional Art Gallery and Museum Society. Established in 1993 the society fosters and promotes the development of art and heritage appreciation in the Gladstone region. Through funds raised through the modest Society membership fee and social activities, the Society is able to provide support for exhibitions, collections and development as well as offering a bus subsidy for school visits to the Gallery/Museum. The Society also sponsors two of the most significant cultural initiatives for young people in the region: the annual Gladstone Regional Art Gallery and Museum Society Golding Visual Arts Bursary and the Golding Showcase: Port Curtis and Callide Valley Youth Art Exhibition.

Further details are available from the Gallery/Museum or by contacting the society secretary: Post Office Box 2011, Gladstone Qld. 4680.
