Commbank brings the Australian Chamber Orchestra to Gladstone

CommBank is encouraging local Gladstone residents to experience what it would be like to play alongside the Australian Chamber Orchestra (ACO), by bringing ACO’s Virtual Experience to Gladstone Regional Art Gallery and Museum this month.

ACO Virtual will be touring art galleries and museums throughout regional Australia, offering music lovers a rare chance to get up close to one of the world’s most dynamic and critically acclaimed orchestras.

ACO Virtual features life-size projections of real Australian Chamber Orchestra musicians, giving visitors a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to watch, conduct and even play alongside the orchestra. The audience controls what musicians they see and hear on the projections via a touch screen ‘music stand’.

Tanya Wex, Gladstone Commonwealth Bank Branch Manager, said:

“It’s a real honour to bring such an incredible music experience to Gladstone. What an exciting prospect for aspiring musicians to play along with some of the best musicians in the country. CommBank is thrilled to support the arts in regional Australia in such an innovative and engaging way.”

Each ACO Virtual session runs for 30 minutes and features works from composers Bach, Grieg, Smalley and Piazolla – each chosen carefully to maximise the audience experience.

The technology also allows budding musicians to view musical notes and actually play along with the orchestra. There’s also an augmented reality smartphone app that provides detailed information about the music, musicians and instruments.
